Welcome to Concordia Lutheran Church, a member of the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod.

Ministries

Ministries at Concordia Lutheran Church in Houston, Texas include worship, education, women's club, LWML or Lutheran Woman's Missionary League, Prayer Ministry Team, youth group, & evangelism.

Worship

Our worship ministry follows a traditional-style service based on the Pew Edition 03-1170 of the Lutheran Service Book, which brings together the Service of the Word, Confession & Absolution, Holy Communion, sermon, prayers & hymns. Our congregation has also decided to keep our Confirmation vows fresh in our minds & hearts by beginning each Sunday service with a brief Catechism review. Traditionally, Pastor Red leads us each Sunday, but occasionally we'll have special services where members of the congregation serve by his side as readers, collection handlers, acolytes, & ushers. As we progress through the church year, Concordia also hosts special mid-week worship services for the seasons of Lent & Advent, as well as extra services during Holy Week, Thanksgiving, Christmas & New Years. You can listen to some of our recent sermons by clicking the links under our About Us - Sunday Mornings description.

Education

Concordia seeks to provide quality Christian education for all ages through its various Bible Study programs. All studies are based on the Bible & may be supplemented with Pastor Red's insight, Concordia Publishing House materials, or the works of Martin Luther. Sunday mornings offer 2 different study topics for adults, with an additional study Wednesday nights. Topics for each class change based on participant interest. Please see About Us - Sunday Mornings & Wednesday Nights for current study details. Please see below for more information on our Youth Group. Children's Sunday School is provided each Sunday morning with interactive lessons focused on Bible stories & the current season of the Church year. In addition to weekly Bible studies, Concordia also offers Confirmation Classes to its members for those unconfirmed looking to solidify their faith according to Lutheran Doctrine.

Women's Club

Concordia has an active Women's Club which hosts activities for fellowship, education & service. Monthly social gatherings & meetings are planned within the club, & special events open to the whole congregation throughout the year are hosted. Please see the Events page for information on upcoming events. The Women's Club also keeps the congregation informed on local & national events of interest to the ladies of the congregation including service opportunities, retreats, & special speakers. Our members participate in various service ministries, sewing baby blankets for the Houston Coalition for Life, as well as quilts for Lutheran World Relief. Women's Club also works closely with the Lutheran Women's Missionary League. The Women’s Club is currently on break until September, but they are always looking for new members!

LWML - Lutheran Women's Missionary League

The LWML is an organization dedicated to assisting women within the Lutheran Church - Missouri Synod in strengthening their faith in Christ so they are empowered to use their gifts in local & global mission ministries. The Women's Club hosts events & speakers created by the LWML for the benefit of Concordia's congregation. We also collect tithes to support the LWML mission & host yearly LWML Sunday services in which the women in the congregation take a more active role in the worship service, acting as ushers, readers & collection handlers.

FUN, FITNESS, AND FELLOWSHIP

"Your health is an investment, not an expense. Fall in Love With Taking Care of Yourself - Mind, Body, Spirit," is the inspirational message from the FFF leader, Alice Farrack. She wants everyone to know the value of taking care of your bodies through exercise. Some of the benefits? Exercise controls weight, combats health conditions and diseases, improves mood, boosts energy, promotes better sleep, and can be a fun and socializing activity when done with friends. So come on out and participate in the class—you can go at your own rate and do as much as you are comfortable with. FFF is a strength and cardio workout group for anyone at any fitness level, with all equipment provided. The group meets every Monday and Wednesday evening at 4:00 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall - come and join us!

If you have any questions about the class, please contact Alice Farrack.

ENGLISH AS A SECOND LANGUAGE (ESL) CLASSES

Concordia has in prior years teamed up with POBLO International Ministries to become the site of an International Friendship Center that offers ESL classes. Currently classes are not being held but are being planned for in the future. If you have interest please contact the church office

Lutheran braille workers

Lutheran Braille Workers consists of some 3,000 volunteers in over 110 Ministry Production Centers throughout the United States. LBW produces approximately 150,000 volumes of Braille and specialized large print Bibles and Christian literature each year.

In addition, LBW has over 40 Ministry Outreach Centers throughout the US that minister to people who are blind and visually impaired through the provision of resources they can use. Most importantly, Outreach Centers provide a family of love and care. Many people who otherwise could not read about Jesus can connect to God’s Word.

Concordia’s Braille Group meets every second and third Thursdays of the month. Other churches that use our Braille facilities are St. Andrew Lutheran and Our Savior Lutheran.

Prayer Ministry Team

As Christians, it is an honor (& duty) to pray for others. The Prayer Ministry Team does just that - we pray for you & your family/friends that have specific prayer requests. Prayer requests may be submitted for church members as well as their family & friends for any situation or occasion (i.e.. physical or emotional healing; for companionship; guidance in a job search; patience, etc.). To submit a prayer request, please fill out a Prayer Request Card available in the pews at Church or complete the form below. Your request(s) will be circulated through our Ministry Team members. If you have a request that you would like to remain confidential, please contact Pastor Red & your request will remain between him & the Lord.

Evangelism

Concordia's Board of Evangelism spearheads efforts of community outreach. Annual events include an Easter Celebration with egg hunt, Summer Block Party, Trunks n' Treats (a Halloween event), & Christmas Caroling. In addition, the Evangelism team works behind the scenes connecting with other local churches, as well as community newspapers & schools.

Check out our slide show from a past year's Trunks n' Treats!
